Jimmie Joe Garrett, age 82, of Prosperity WV, was called Home by the Lord on August 3, 2017 after a short illness. Jimmie loved the Lord and he was eager to tell anyone who would listen. Jimmie was a very innovative man. He was self-taught in most areas of life. There was no project too difficult for him to accomplish. Jimmie Joe Garrett, age 82, of Prosperity WV, was called Home by the Lord on August 3, 2017 after a short illness. Jimmie loved the Lord and he was eager to tell anyone who would listen. Jimmie was a very innovative man. He was self-taught in most areas of life. There was no project too difficult for him to accomplish. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Bays Garrett, a son, James Jason Garrett, parents Frank and Estelle Phipps Garrett, and infant brother, Eugene. He is survived by 5 children- Sharon Eddleman of Mt. Hope WV, Brenda (Wayne) Adkins of Fairdale WV, Mark Garrett (Larry Harrah) of Port St. Lucie FL, Lisa (JD) Goss of Crab Orchard WV, Tammy (Mark) Shanks of Nashville TN, and Shannon (Lori) Garrett of Glen Morgan WV. He is also survived by 12 brothers and sisters- Nellie Hitchcock of Jefferson MD, Christine Vass of Jackson Michigan, Frieda Mae Dickson of Beckley WV, Flora Humphrey of Oak Hill WV, Madeline (John) Beatty of Buchanan Michigan, Nancy (Dennis) Compton of Fayetteville WV, Linda Fernandez of Buchanan VA, Bernard (Mandy) Garrett of Oak Hill WV, Billy (Linda) Garrett of Starr SC, Mike (Cheryl) Garrett of Watertown TN, Kenneth (Patricia) Garrett of Fayetteville WV, and Bonnie (Mike) Angelona of Fayetteville WV. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.



Jimmie was a Veteran of the Korean War and received a purple heart. He was very proud to serve his country, and had a very soft heart for other Veterans. He continued in life first working as a lumberjack and went on to work in plaster, stucco and stone for over 50 years, and was the owner-operator of Garrett Stucco and Stone.



Visitation is 3-4pm for family and 4-5pm for friends on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home.



Services will be held at 5pm on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home with Pastor Dennis Burks of Crow Baptist Church officiating.



A military service will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Shane Daugherty, Fred Mills, Brian Ayers, Charlie Shumaker, Scott Compton.
